Usui Reiki Classes
Usui Reiki is arguably the best known form of Reiki and the most prevalent in our Western culture. Revealed to Dr. Mikao Usui in the 1900’s, what evolved was an answer to his meditations on issues of wellness, spirituality and life. Reiki is best described as a Japanese method of meditation, concentration, and energetic focus that results in an enhanced feeling of peace and wellness for oneself or others.  When a person is relaxed, focused, and peaceful, it allows the natural body functions to promote health and healing.   Although Reiki, as we are describing it, is a somewhat recent manifestation, it actually is based on long-standing principles and these concepts continue to evolve.

Reiki classes are different than a Reiki session in that in the classes, “attunements” occur and there is a concurrent learning and experiential process during which a student is taught various aspects and techniques of the Reiki tradition. During the course of a class, session like activities occur, but the student is not just receiving Reiki, they are also learning how to perform Reiki for themselves and others. This skill set and sense is reinforced during practice with fellow students.

Successful completion of the various Reiki classes helps develop the student’s energetic sense and ability to perform Reiki.  The classes and attunements are sequential and each level builds upon the previous level. The attunement process not only enhances the general awareness of Reiki, it also passes on specific techniques, symbols, knowledge, and literally “attunes” the student to be more open to energetic processes. With regular use and application of Reiki techniques, very significant shifts in how a person thinks, feels, and views the world can occur. This shift is toward a feeling of peacefulness and wholeness.

The Center offers Reiki I & II together in a combined course. We have found that offering both classes together provides some synergistic reinforcement for both levels and provides a greater ability to actually perform Reiki. Offering the classes together also results in a lower cost to the student. Reiki I & II classes cover various topics along with the following techniques and concepts: Byosen scanning, beaming, the power / mental-emotional / distance symbols, hand positions for self-treatment, hand positions for treating others, Gassho meditation, Reiji-ho, Chiryo, Kenyoku, Koki-ho, Gyoshi-ho, Jacki-Kiri Joka-ho, and Enkaku chiryo.

After a minimum of six months of experience and practice with Reiki I & II concepts, the student is ready to progress to the next level of Usui Reiki training. Teachers describe the next level of training in various ways:  Reiki III, Reiki 3a, Advanced Reiki Training, or Reiki Master. At the Center we combine Advanced Reiki Training (ART) and the Master level into a single course. As with the Reiki I & II classes, we have found this to provide better reinforcement along with the benefit of saving some money over that of separate courses. The ART / Master class covers advanced concepts and introduces new techniques such as: moving meditation, the Reiki grid, Reiki Master meditation, aura clearing, Kanji symbols, Usui Master symbol, Tibetan symbols, Antahkarana, various exercises, and Reiki I, II, ART, Master attunements. The student is also then taught, and practices, the methods for performing all attunements. At the successful conclusion of this class, the student is considered a Reiki Master. Upon actually teaching others the concepts learned, they can present themselves as a Reiki Master Teacher.

Reiki Attunements

Personal Preparation

Preparation for the classes and attunements is similar to that of session preparation. As higher levels of attunement occur, it is recommended that the student spend more time fasting and preparing emotionally, cognitively and spiritually. What that actually means will be unique for each individual.  In order to optimize the Reiki attunement process — the student should be in the best place that they can be from a holistic stand-point.
